Everything Fred – Part 478

7 March 2025

Another beautiful day with the temperature dipping down to 50°F this morning. It was 55°F when I started my morning walk (1.5 miles) and warmed to 65°F by the time I finished.

Last night I started a tv binge with White Lotus and finished with several episodes of Younger. You’d think that this woman posing as 26 would finally out herself as a 40 year old but I guess the series would be over. At least I’m finding some tv that holds my interest – as mindless as it is.

Have you ever tried to photograph a spider’s web? I’ve had mixed success over the years and I’ve never really been fully pleased. Today is no different but I found one on the edge of the house that turned out OK.

Crab Spider (Gasteracantha cancriformis)

These are all over the yard and I’m constantly walking into their webs. They are harmless and really too small to bite you. It would have been nice to photograph it with dew on the web. They are sometimes referred to as orb weavers.

While having coffee on the back patio, I noticed Asparagus Fern in bloom. I guess spring is truly here in South Florida – my orange tree bloomed, the mangoes have bloomed and now the Asparagus Fern.

Asparagus Fern (Asparagus setaceus)

Of course, it’s not a fern but a monocot. It’s closely related to the Asparagus you eat and I suppose you could eat the young shoots of this. However, it tends to get very woody very quickly.

Today is clean-the-pool-filter day, hose off the patio, spray for weeds, and check the chemicals in the pool. After that, I predict a nap.

Stay tuned!
