We’re giving The Original Pancake House a lot of business this week. Two meals in a row. Breakfast seems to take place around 1:30 pm. At least we miss the crowds.
Wade and I drove over to visit with his long time friends Kenyon and Jeff and short time friends Rob and Bill. He met Rob and Bill last year at his 80th birthday party through Kenyon. Kenyon and Jeff are staying with Rob and Bill and the house is right on the Port Everglades Channel. They own two houses there and their relatives own several more along that area. It’s probably the most expensive real estate in Broward County. You certainly get a great view of the cruise ships from their back yard.
The house is being turned over to Bill’s brother and Rob and Bill are building a two story house west of the house we were in. Both are in the mid-century modern sphere. We toured the new house that is about 6 months away from completion and sympathized with them for all the problems they encountered with contractors, the city, etc. It’s going to be magnificent.
Kenyon cooked hamburgers and salmon for us and we ate outside on the patio. It was a perfect evening for it but we had to stop every so often and wave at the cruise ships. The passengers were eager for us to acknowledge them. Three cruise ships left port that afternoon/evening. Dessert was the world’s best key lime pie.
Rob and Bill cruise a good bit – 4 to 5 times a year – and they always have exclusive cabins with their own butler, maid, private chef, and choice of restaurants. In spite of their wealth, they are really two very down to earth people.
We stayed and conversed, laughed, and commiserated until around 8:30 when I told Wade I needed to go home and go to bed.
Today, the only thing we have planned is my 3 pm FaceTime with Jimmie and dinner with Joel and Keith at Flanigans.
Stay tuned!
