Everything Fred – Part 195

28 December 2023

As of 4:28 pm I’ve not heard a word from the jeep dealer. I’ve called twice, left a message once and am no further along from finding out (1) if they have the head rest replacement (2) if they need to pull the bumper to replace the headlight or bulb (3) if they are upgrading the software for the recall and (4) what the check engine light means. I specifically scheduled the jeep going in at 8 am on Wednesday to give them plenty of time to fix everything and allowed for no appointments on Thursday in case they needed that day also. I now have no transportation to the hydration infusion tomorrow at 2:00 pm. I can take an Uber but I doubt the jeep place will reimburse me.

Here’s the text message I received from them after taking the jeep in. Since this text, nothing. “Hello, FRED SEARCY. Thank you for choosing Hollywood CJ to service your vehicle. We’ll keep you updated on your vehicle’s progress with messages just like this one. If you have any questions, you can send us a message here.”

Yesterday was a good day physically. Today not so much. My energy level crashed. However, Farah, the assistant to Dr. Jellinger, the endocrinologist, called to tell me my cortisol level is back to normal (14.0 µg/dL with normal range of 6.7-22.6 µg/dL). She also said he wants me to test my glucose either during the day or during the night just before bed in addition to the morning.

Later, Dr. Jellinger ended up texting me. I explained the crashes I was having. He wanted me to start Jardiance again. After giving him a run down of what was going on with me with the neuropathy, he suggested I up my Lyrica to 300 mg/day and not got back on Jardiance until I see if I adapt to the new dosage of Lyrica. It can make you dizzy and also cause edema of the legs. My feet are already swollen and I’m constantly dizzy as it is.

He suggested that if I don’t do Jardiance, he would put me on insulin. That I don’t want to do. He says it’s easy these days. You have something like an epipen and it supposedly doesn’t hurt to inject. I’d rather stay off insulin if at all possible.

John brought over more chili and a nice salad from an Italian market. I’ve gotten where I crave fresh vegetables but I also have to be careful. A bout of E. coli would not be good with my depressed immune system. It might be the final coup de grâce. In the words of the country song, “Turn out the lights, the party’s over.” Shades of Don Meridith. For those of you who don’t get the reference, he used to sing that at the end of every football game when there was never any doubt as to the outcome.

It’s rained all day and only just stopped. We are predicted for a low of 59°F tonight as a low. When I got up this morning it was 60°F outside and 75°F inside. I turned the unit over to heat to take the chill out and I suspect I’ll leave it that way for a few days. Later next week, we are predicted to be in the high 40’s.

Stay tuned!
