Everything Fred – Part 194

27 December 2023

I was awake at 3:30 am and out of bed by 4. That always happens. When I know I have an early commitment, even though I set an alarm (5 am) I always wake early. After coffee and breakfast and ablutions, I made it to Hollywood Chrysler Jeep just a little before 8 am.

They have offices for 5 service representatives. One was working. Apparently the others were either no shows or late. I listed for her the four things I needed assessed: check engine light, headlight replacement, recall, and headrest. After some checking, she said there was a code associated with the check engine light. She asked if it was just a bulb or the entire headlight. I said I thought it was just a bulb. I suspect there’s a great difference in price in changing out a bulb versus the entire headlight system.

She listed all four on the work sheet and said I would be notified what was what and they would go from there.

Joel and Keith picked me up and we headed to the Bake Shack for (me) a second breakfast. I’d never been to the place. It’s a hole in the wall with mostly take out but they have a few tables. They were busy. I ordered an omelette and coffee. Since it was a bake shop and you had to walk past the baked goods, I got up during a lull at the cash register and picked 4 doughnuts. I got one each for Joel and Keith and two for me. Mine were mango surprise and a crème brûlée. Joel got the brown butter and sesame and Keith got the blueberry crumble. They and the breakfast were delicious. I’ll go back for sure.

I waited the afternoon for a call to tell me what was what with the jeep. Nada. I finally called around 3:30 pm and was put through their loopy phone system. After several tries, someone finally picked up. They were in the work bays and said he would get to me as soon as he went back up front. He forgot to put me on hold. I got an earful of conversations between him and the mechanics. I was shocked, shocked at the language!

Eventually, I gave up and started yelling hello into the phone. It was then he realized he had not put me on hold. Soon I was connected to someone else who told me my car would be held hostage overnight. That really wasn’t news. When I took it in earlier in the month, they told me it would be an overnight deal – probably the software package. All their software upgrades seem to take an excessive amount of time. I called Joel and told him not to worry about taking me to pick up the jeep today.

I did get a nap in and there was no late afternoon crash of energy. Hopefully I’ll be able to rescue my jeep sometime tomorrow.

Stay tuned!
